My opinion is , the darkside is just getting terrible, with AFL police, threads being sabotaged, silly , stupid and insulting threads. etc
or is it the way to develope and promote our club and code. Iused to enjoy catching up with the latest news and information supplied by other forumites like Oz Mackem , Gweeds NUFC, Dasher even Magpie ,and others , but now, there is an element totally out to ruin the site. Debateable topics get fewer, club bashing, Ernie in particular, and individual players is rampant. Not good enough,
Can this site be used by those who want a better deal

oz machem sent me a pm telling me that he's leaving the Darkside and he mentioned the AFL police as well. These may be forumites that dislike threads that put Aussie rules down I guess.

I agree with Greenwood that the darkside can be a cess pit sometimes. However it is a very active forum. I tend to stay clear from bad threads and try to concentrate on the better ones, or respond to good posts.

I got a pm from Oz Mackem as well.

Sad.

I wonder if the new 'social groups' feature might provide an opportunity for people who want to have a more intellectual discussion without getting spammed or abused by idiots.

Pffffttt, soft I say!!!! How much abuse have the likes of you and I copped over the years, CLM! mind you, I've run away and hid in the past as well. Did you invite him over to this forum? that would be nice. IN FACT he's someone i didn't get in touch with re HEM and he has kids!!! Silly me. I like Oz Makem, good bloke, saw him at my mates school fete.

It's funny though, cos the really vicious elements on the forum have been banned and the ones that are still on (or are still there but hiding behind a multi) are a lot more discreet in their vitriole. I think the moderating has become a bit more consistent and complaints are being taken a bit more seriously.

AND THEN there's the OTHER forums. Behind the scenes there are a trillion and one other alternative forums that people spend time on, such as the terrace culture forum (for groups in the NT) the ITA forum, the BWB forum (that has always been around) the south end forum......and of course us!!!!

I'm going to go forward that HEM PM to Dasher and Oz Makem

i must admit, i participate in some of the stupidity, mainly on the lounge, but that's mostly because i enjoy leaving my brain at the door sometimes. for example, i think my run of def leppard "armless" gags is some of my best work Very Happy

but i agree, sometimes lines are crossed (eg reading some of the "funniest thing you've ever seen" thread makes me sick, the debate over the yanks murdering the puppy being real or not etc.)

like gweeds, i ignore and look elsewhere on the forum.

Guess if people aren't interested in discussing things twice then they can just ignore.
Am willing to create a general football discussion section for peeps if you want to mod.

Under the Quick Links menu, under networking, there is a thing called 'social groups'.
Seb set one up for the South End, but it is invitation only. But I think it is possible for normal forumites to set up their own, cause a few have done it.

How about if you make a list of the civilised people you like to talk to, and we'll see if we can get them in a group.

Not sure how well it will work - it is not as easy to access and read as the main forum. But we can try it out.

The AFL police bit is a huge cop out.
I get called AFL police by Ozmackem and take offence to the fact that because I choose to defend a sport, that he cant tolerate, rather than providing any real substance to a discussion he will run around saying AFL police AFL police. Most of the "articles" that he posts in the threads that get the most attention are from "blogs" and are written by people with the same agenda as he has. So when you ask for and substance or for the verification of facts there is none because it is all opinion based vitriol.
It is worth noting that the so called "AFL police" are also seen in other threads defending the club, the players, the sport of football. I don't think that i have ever come across 1 person on the forum whose sole intention is to bring down football or denigrate it in every post. One of the best features of the darkside is that there are many different people with many different views. I don't always agree with people on there, even the ones in here whose opinions I repsect, but just because they have a different opinion doesn't mean I have to resort to name calling. If I don't agree I will tell you I don't and I will tell you why. Thats how most adults operate.

In regards to the darkside in general I think that it is much better policed than it was 12 months ago. The main abusers have been banned and the level of nastiness seems to have subsided somewhat.
It's worth noting that the greatest amount of rubbish seems to appear on there during the 6 month offseason. Whether it is in the lounge of the football sections thats when it seems to take a dip.

Matt , your missing the point in your dislike of an individual. I for one am not saying what you are, about bringing the game down . It is the banal attempts to ruin a thread . thats bugs people. I could name at least 6 who never contribute ,just go to ruin or denigrate a thread deliberately then when they are challenged , their support backers move in. You forget the most valid point Oz Mackem makes . It is a football forum for Football talk , not AFL, I for one would be pleased to see the AFL propaganda controlled, especially as some drag their AFL crap to other threads ie You tube stuff and the likes. Iam fully aware of free speech, freedom and democracy , embracing other peoples points of view and opinions are part of a good forum. But go to an AFL or NRL or the likes if you want serious debate, not ours. By all means , pass on news and information , which Oz Mackem does , and others , and I will support and back that guy anytime for our forum against any of the AFL Police

Yes, I was listening to the RAI broadcast on SBS Radio.

Greenwood. I agree that it is bad form to talk Aussie Rules on the Darkside if is in a football section.

However I think is appropriate to discuss Aussie Rules in the 'Lounge Sport' section under the appropriate threads. The fact that many football fans are bicodal and appreciate both sports is a positive feature of the current sporting climate (same with discussing the Rugby codes, basketball, Olympics etc.).

I wholeheartedly agree, as you know I follow Rugby League, and enjoy sharing news and views with others on the forum . It is the "Spoilers" I dont like , and those who drag their AFL over into the Football areas

The irony being that it is in your eyes ok for one point of view to be given but not another.

I agree wholeheartedly.
It's one of the reasons we have so many members compared to other A-League teams. We live in a city that historically has huge membership numbers for sporting teams. Thats what sets us apart from the apathy entrenched in the sporting public north of the border. So maybe rather than trying eradicate threads that talk about AFL if you decide you dont want to discuss AFL then don't frequent those threads.
