I expect everyone is going and will basically stand where they stood last time.
I think that being General Admission it is probably better if everyone buys their own tickets. _________________

think i will be able to make it this time, and finally meet you all.
OSS's style and demeanor equates closest to how i'd like to front up and support the MV.
got a ticket to ride and eager to see the club turn it on.
which bay were you in last time? |

I am stunned....
I was considering briefly not coming as my new team is having a practice match.
WHO THE HELL HAS A PRACTISE MATCH ON 1) A WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND 2) THE SAME NIGHT AS A MELBOURNE VICTORY INTERNATIONAL GAME?????? Madness!!!
Anyway, have decided not to play in the practise match, as a few bods from school have expressed interest in going along as a group, AND Kobe wants to come to this one, so I will effectively be tethered, unlike last game where I was on the loose and out of control SUCH FUN!!!
Don't know where we will go yet, will make up our mind on the night I suppose. Deb? Rollins? Gweeds? |

I to am tethered hoping to be involved in some form of active support.
If peeps stay down sth i will attempt join them, although personally i would prefer to stay on the edge of the nt supporter bays. |

Same here. If the CLM clan is not going to go I wouldn't mind being on the 'edge of the North' _________________

Sounds like there is a move to be down the north end but to the side....not sure where we'll be or who we'll be with, and as is noraml when I'm with my son, we may INTEND to be somewhere, but he may crack the **** and refuse to go where the rest of the people are, or be very unhappy about bneing there.
I'm not sure where the others will be, but I'll be at the Colonial before the game, am wearing my victory chic t-shirt and my signature colourful headband. I'm unreliable as far as answering my phone goes, you'd be best off getting someone elses phone, namely gweeds or philly, I reckon.
AND, of course you'd be welcome wherever the rest of us are! All welcome! Bring sushi |

cool... uhm, any chance of knowing which side? rough aisle number?
my girl and i will probably be finding a spot on level 1 (though i'm getting sicker by the minute, so that's a spanner in the works), as i don't like the idea of her going up all those damn ramps. i've got a victory ver 2 jersey, and a champions scarf i always wear. mrs dechardonay has a ver 2 melbourne scarf (grey/blue one) and looks like she's about to pop she will likely be carrying a pillow as well - damn seats in telstra dome...
hopefully you can make it, barring that game you've got... |

dechardonnay et al
I suggest you
1) send pms with your mobile phone no. on the melbournevictory.net forum (ie the 'darkside) to a couple of the people who have posted in this thread they are going-
eg Gweeds, Philly, DD, Cityblue
and ask them to SMS you their location when they get settled
(getting a bit late in the day, but it might work
2) go to the south end, to the left of the main crowd, behind the goal
and find yourselves a spot around there
that is where OSS usually goes |

| That it was. I think I will remember the collective gasp and open mouths of the crowd when the first goal was scored. It was special. |

|
|
Last night I experienced the 'North end' for the first time. Rollins, Pensive and I were just an aisle away from the BWB.
I had a great time. I tried to follow all the chants and clapping, but it was exausted at the end, and not only because it was a tense game!
I felt like a beginner at an advances aerobic class when it comes to following Tunna and what was happening. I guess that because I did not know all the chants etc. AND I was also being emotionally involved in the game it was quite an effort.
The strangest thing for me though was that it appeared that what was happening on the pitch was of secondary importance of what was happening on the ground. I suspect that 'experienced' northern terrace people can chant, do the choreography and follow the game at the same time, and I haven't had that skill. Just than when the opposition is kicking a corner I am not into singing and jumping!
Anyway I met Watt and Nelson and that was good. I always like to see forum people in the flesh.[/b] _________________

Sorry we didn't catch up with you all Gweeds, deb and I were making our way around to where you were at but got stuck at aisle 3-4 where slab and co were, then we all went back to the south end, (well, I had a quick stop at the locker room.....)
About the watching thing in the norht end, if I compare and contrast the two ACL games, the first one I was in the north end for most of the game, I saw none of what happened on the pitch. Last nights game, I was down the south end, saw most of the game, AND was SOOOOO glad to actually watch it, as it was SUCH a good game!
Ohh gotta go, I'll post more later. |

Did you get home alright?
I do agree with Gweeds, however seeing you both nights am somehow not surprised.
Unfortunately i am hopeless at muti tasking & see little at either end. |

It was quite an experience being so close to the north end, and i quite enjoyed it once inhibitions were steadily shed. It is quite a workout and definately suited to younger people overflowing with raw adrenalin, sound joints and stamina.
The repertoir of moves and songs and weirdness has to be seen to be believed.
It takes away from your powers of observation much the same way speaking on a mobile phone (with hands) whilst driving would do, thus it was beyond what i ever expected or desired.
If i did it again i'd go in full of beans, but really would much prefer to focus attention on the wider perspective on the pitch.
To me, the terrace is more a rhythmic, whimsical, wonderful part of the overall atmosphere and a great driver of support for the team, but not a relaxing throng to be in the midst of.
Thanks guys for your welcome, on what was a terrific clash, where David could well have toppled goliath. |

I am glad you enjoyed it Gweeds and Pensive.
Its easier to follow things when you are right inside, and it does get easier when you are used to it but you are right you do miss things, that is why we have TVs.
I suppose to understand the North you have to understand that we are prepared to sacrifice our view of the game to support the team.
Imagine a game against Sydney. The North terrace does not go to the match to watch Melbourne players beat sydney players. The North Terrace goes to the game to do all it can so we Melbourne defeat Sydney. Everyone does their bit if we had the skill we would be out there playing but since we don't (or we are too old) we do what we can :90 minutes of chanting, yelling, screaming, intimidating the ref, telling the opposition GK keeper what we think of his mother and sister, anything.
At the end of the day win or lose, we will know we did all we could, we will feel it in our bodies.
Eduardo Galeano explains it beautifully I tried to find the quote in English but couldn't so here it is in Spanish (I know some here speak Spanish or Italian) and I'll translate the highlighted bits:
|
"It is very rare for the fan to say today "my club plays", no he says "today we play". He knows very well, this twelveth player that it is him who blows the winds of fervor that push the ball when it falls asleep, and well know the other 11 players that playing without fans is like dancing without music"
In the rest of the paragraph Galeano explains beautifully, how when the drums, the confetti flows and the fire cracker explodes the week is forgoten and how when the game is finished the fan stays and celebrates or mourns and how when the lights go off and the sounds disappear, "the "I that was a We" disperses, distances and goes into a melancolic Sunday (from Football in sun and shadow, translated badly by me)
Does it work? do we really have an influence on the game? or is it a romantic delusion? it really doesn't matter does it , but anyone that has been in the great stadiums of the world knows that home advantage and the supporters can change the game. It may not work with MVFC yet (we are not good enough yet and TD is **** and only now they are starting to let us to have a fighting chance to support the team the way it should be done) but it will one day (and if it doesn't than it doesn't we just keep trying )
Makes sense? |
