| Thu Feb 08, 2007 11:36 am New OSS forumites welcome. |
|
|
We have a few forumites now, a whopping 39 or so it would seem!!! I've also noticed a couple of BWB people have registered, which is wonderful to see. there have also been a few people who have been in contact with us and shown interest in getting involved, like Cone, Pensive, and there's those who are very supportive of us, like Greenwood & co.
Was wondering if we should maybe do something in the offseason, could PM everyone and have a BBQ and a kick around in the park or something.
AND Gweeds had some wonderful suggestions on OSS activities and outings too, would be good to establish some relationships outside of MVFC match days.
Thoughts? |

Thanks Daydream. One suggestion was originally from Cityblue that we get organised to join as a group the GG Army for the Argentina friendly.
The other was to have a couple of counter meals during the off-season. One maybe around May just to catch up and the other around the end of July so we can discuss where finally we want to be at TD for season 2007/08. |

| Perhaps a banner making day before the Argentina friendly would be good as well? |

Hey DD Cone et all :)
Yes it was me at the Glen Waverley train.
I've been reading this board for a while, but I didn't join or comment on any threads because I don't stand with the OSS.
Finally I decided that reading anonymously is a little rude so I joined :)
I do intend to stand with you sometimes next year. I'm torn between wanting to bring my children to the football and the fact that I absolutely love the NT.
I'll probably do a bit of both next year.
Two questions:
Have you guys decided where will you stand next year?
Also have you considered contacting the club and seeing if they would agree to include information about you as a group in the membership papers (they might be happy with the idea of a family friendly supporter group so they may want to promote you). I'm not sure if it is a good idea it may compromise your indenpendence too much (is that important to you guys?) and might mean you grow rather quickly (is that good or bad?).
Hope you guys don't mind the questions, and thanks for the welcome :) |

great idea (to contact the club), also i do agree about the NT as i loved standing there on the GF game and the kids want to stand there all the time now but of course i really do want to stand with OSS and understand why most do not want to stand in the NT, aisle 3 was great for the kids as they were away from the main NT crews but still able to join in with the chants, but of course some of the chants we changed the words to but it still sounded great. my daughter was so happy when she started the Archie chant and everyone ended up joining in. :D |

Ive been thinking since season 1 that the club should promote a area for families who wish to sing & be more vocal in there support.
Personally it's very important to me that OSS stays independent from the club. |

When I think about it, it might also be umportant for your relationship with other supporter groups that you remain independent.
It was just a thought |

I think that the club and TD would answer that the 'dry area' is the dedicated family area. That is the idea in the AFL anyway.
As we know the OSS is a fairly unique group. Our philosophy, that we welcome children and those who don't like to swear etc. is something that is not understood by Telstra Dome who would say that a "Dry sitting down area' is what families require and neither by the bigger fans group that believe that 'real' football support involves swearing etc. and contains individuals who are children-unfriendly.
So we have to carve out our own identity. And that is not easy. |

I think you are right about it being hard to get a handle on what we are about. And hard o put into words without appearing to criticise others.
In principle, I prefer that we too stay independent of the club, though in practise I am not sure it makes a huge difference. But I think it is best to stay independent, unless a rwal reason emerges not to.
However, that does not mean that we never ask for anything.
I sometimes think that our stance puts us in a potentially stronger position to ask for things from the stadium/club - but we have yet to test that theory. |

Hmm that theory needs testing :?, we might not have as much bargaining power as we are less of a threat to the mvfc brand $$$.
Regardless independant all the way :P |

Absolutely 100% agreed.
And OSS is definitely not politically neutral/passive in any case, this being a wonderful wonderful thing. |

and some more of the rizzo gang i just got informed. rizzos 10 year old bro may be coming aswell. so the m ore the merrier. and in another 5 years there will be another 2 additions, my babys cuz' has now got two twin siblings.
but there might be a problem. i cant guarantee anything, because they might have to stay with me in the youth bay. if oss was closer to youth bay, i wouldnt mind bringing them over and having a sort of half view. but i have full trust in you guys. but we will see closer to the season starting. |

A quick hello...
I became aware of the OSS through one of the other fora, and have kept an eye on your discussions.
Although I've not stood with you to date, I will do - it's not a matter of if, but when: my three year old has been to a few matches and my wife is keen to bring him to more.
When at Olympic Park my group of ten regulars (no, not family!) were in the South end (in general, not as part of SDC or the South Enders(?)).
I look forward to making your acquaintances at some point - although I fear he prospect of dragging the rest of my group into the OSS might be slim... |
